UCC Choir

The University College Cork Choir is a long‑established and much‑loved ensemble within the cultural life of University College Cork. Formed in 2012, the choir comprises of students from the School of Music and Theatre as well as staff from across the university, the choir has become a firm favourite in UCC’s FUAIM concert series, performing regularly both on and off campus. Its reputation is built on a distinctive blend of musical excellence, community spirit, and artistic curiosity, which has made it one of the university’s most recognisable performing groups.  

Under the direction of Dr Eva McMullan‑Glossop, the UCC Choir has developed a vibrant and expressive performance identity. The ensemble is known for its innovative collaborations with prominent Irish artists, including John Spillane, Iarla Ó Lionáird, Cara O’Sullivan, Karan Casey, Cónal Creedon, Brian Kennedy, Paddy Casey, Lisa Lambe, Majella Cullagh as well as the legendary Cork band The Frank and Walters. These partnerships have broadened the choir’s artistic reach and helped shape a repertoire that moves fluidly between classical, traditional, contemporary, and popular styles.  

The choir plays a central role in the musical life of the university, contributing to ceremonial occasions, public concerts, and interdisciplinary events. Its performances frequently highlight the collaborative ethos of UCC’s School of Music and Theatre, bringing together students, staff, guest artists, and community partners. The choir’s appearance in the FUAIM series—such as the 2026 Spring finale concert in the Honan Chapel, where it performed alongside the Crosshaven Community Choir and soprano Majella Cullagh—demonstrates its commitment to fostering musical connections both within and beyond the university.  

Today, the UCC Choir continues to thrive as a dynamic ensemble that reflects the diversity and creativity of the university community. Its ongoing work under Dr McMullan‑Glossop’s direction ensures that the choir remains a space where singers of varied backgrounds can come together to explore music, develop their skills, and contribute to the rich artistic fabric of UCC.

You don’t need to read music — the UCC Choir welcomes everyone. It’s a space where enthusiasm matters more than experience, and every voice adds something unique. 

Rehearsals: Mondays (during semester), 6:00–7.30 pm, Geography Lecture Theatre (GLT) 

UCC Concert Band

The UCC Concert Band is a vibrant and inclusive ensemble bringing together students, staff, alumni and members of the wider community to make music at the heart of university life. Established in 2024, the band has quickly become a key contributor to UCC’s cultural and public‑facing activity, performing regularly at university events and collaborative concerts.  

With a growing membership and a welcoming, non‑auditioned ethos, the Concert Band is open to wind, brass and percussion players of all backgrounds, offering the opportunity to rehearse and perform a diverse repertoire in a supportive and sociable environment. Weekly rehearsals provide a creative outlet alongside academic and professional life, fostering community, collaboration, and musical development.  

In its first two years, the ensemble has performed at a wide range of high‑profile events, including UCC Open Day, Alumni Homecoming, the President’s Celebration of Volunteers, and FUAIM Lunchtime Concerts. The band also collaborates regularly with other university ensembles, including UCC Choir and the UCC Orchestra Society, and continues to build partnerships beyond the university.  

Looking ahead, the Concert Band is expanding its programme of performances and outreach, with invitations to major university occasions and external events. As part of the Department of Music’s ensemble offering, it plays an important role in supporting student experience, artistic engagement, and the University’s wider community connections.
