Cork Folk Festival 2026 - Lecture by Peter Browne - 8th October
In partnership with Cork Folk Fest, the Department of Music is delighted to welcome musician and broadcaster Peter Browne to the Ó Riada Hall next Thursday, 8 October at 5:30pm, where he will deliver a lecture entitled Tuning the Radio - 100 Years of Irish Traditional Music Broadcasting.
Peter Browne is a celebrated uilleann piper and broadcaster. He learned from three of the great pipers of modern times; Séamus Ennis, Leo Rowsome and Willie Clancy. In the early 1970s, he spent two periods playing on both pipes and flute with The Bothy Band. His work as a session musician included contributing to recordings by Paul Brady, The Chieftains, The Dubliners, Scullion and Cór Chúil Aodha. He worked for over 40 years in RTÉ Radio One with a special interest in traditional music. Until his retirement in 2018, he produced and presented RTÉ Radio One's flagship Irish Traditional Music programme, The Rolling Wave.
