Call for Commissions - Celebrating the Bicentenary of Isabella Honan
The Honan Trust UCC invites expressions of interest for the creation of a new commemorative musical work to mark the bicentenary of the birth of Isabella Honan (1826–2026), a figure whose legacy continues to shape cultural and educational life in Cork. We welcome proposals for either a vocal or instrumental composition that thoughtfully reflect Isabella Honan’s contribution to Irish cultural heritage, the university, the values of the Trust, and the significance of this milestone anniversary.
The commissioned work may be written for solo voice, choir, solo instrument, concert band, or a combination thereof. The duration of the piece should be 4-6 minutes. The commissioned work is to be completed no later than September 1st and will be premiered on September 25th. The commissioned composer will receive a fee of €2,000.
The following materials must be submitted in order to be considered for the commission:
· A short proposal (300–500 words) describing the concept for the work.
· Two to three samples of previous compositions (scores, recordings, or links).
· A brief artist biography (max. 200 words).
For further information contact Dr. Eva McMullan-Glossop e.mcmullan@ucc.ie
Please send proposals electronically to the Department of Music music@ucc.ie with 'Honan Commission' in the subject line by July 17th.
