Tadhg O’Sullivan appointed as Film Artist in Residence at UCC

17 Dec 2020

The Arts Council and University College Cork are delighted to announce the appointment of Tadhg O’Sullivan as Film Artist in Residence for 2021.

The Film Artist in Residence role is jointly funded by the Arts Council and UCC. It is designed to provide a film artist of distinction with a unique opportunity to develop his/her practice in a university environment, while offering students and staff the opportunity to engage with a practising artist in a meaningful way during the course of their studies and wider cultural involvement in campus life.

Tadhg O’Sullivan is the seventh film artist to be appointed to the role and follows Carmel Winters, Gerry Stembridge, Hugh Travers, Mark O’Halloran, Pat Murphy and Alan Gilsenan who enjoyed successful residencies at UCC since 2014.

Speaking of the appointment Fionnuala Sweeney, Head of Film and Architecture at the Arts Council, said: ‘The Arts Council is delighted that Tadhg O’Sullivan will be the next Film Artist in Residence at UCC. The residency comes at a significant point in Tadhg’s career when his singular feature To the Moon has been critically acclaimed internationally.  We hope the residency will provide him with the time and space to further develop his film practice within the supportive and stimulating environment of UCC.’

Jools Gilson, Professor of Creative Practice and Head of the School of Film, Music and Theatre added:  'We are delighted and honoured to appoint Tadhg O'Sullivan as the UCC Film Artist in Residence for 2021 - an artist who works through a distinctive and compelling entanglement of documentary, literary and contemporary moments.'
