BA in Film and Screen Media Open Evening with Kirsten Sheridan!

7 Nov 2012

Thursday 15 November, 6 pm, Boole 4, UCC. All welcome!

"The film business has been transformed by digital technology - and there's much more change to come. Any film studies course worth its salt needs to examine the opportunities and challenges presented by digital and to analyse their long-term consequences for the film industry, film culture and audiences. This is exactly what UCC's new BA in Film and Screen Media will do."

Lord David Puttnam, Film producer and Adjunct Professor of Film Studies and Digital Humanities, University College Cork.

University College Cork is delighted to announce an Open Evening for the new BA in Film and Screen Media (launching September 2013) on Thursday 15th November at 6pm in Boole Lecture Theatre 4.

Come along and hear more about the BA in the presence of our special guest for the evening, Oscar nominated screenwriter and award winning director, Kirsten Sheridan (In America; Disco Pigs; August Rush). Kirsten will introduce the BA and talk about her experiences as a writer director in the film industry in Ireland and Hollywood. Kirsten’s latest film is Dollhouse, which will be screened at the Cork Film Festival at 9pm that evening (venue: Gate cinema).

Led by internationally recognised experts and practitioners, UCC’s BA in Film and Screen Media is a cutting edge programme that offers students a comprehensive education in the history, aesthetics and practice of the moving image, from early cinema to the digital age. The programme is unique in the Republic of Ireland in its combination of film studies and screen media (internet, mobile social media, computer games).

The BA also offers practical modules and workshops in digital filmmaking and writing for the screen, and students will have the chance to work with a resident filmmaker and a resident screenwriter in the course of their degree.  Leading figures from both Ireland and further afield will be coming in to give guest lectures on filmmaking, film producing, screenwriting, acting, film history, and marketing of films. UCC has a strong record in attracting notable speakers - in the past, we’ve welcomed Oscar nominated filmmakers, distinguished actors, writers and producers – and this tradition will continue with our new BA.
