Work Placement

BSc Computer Science

In third year you will undertake a six or 12 month paid work placement with an organisation within the ICT industry. The work placement is jointly monitored by a UCC
computer science staff member and an employee of the placement organisation. The placement is facilitated via the UCC Careers Service. You do have the opportunity to undertake your work placement abroad if a suitable company is identified.

Some recent placement companies include: Amazon, Cisco, Citi Goup, Clearstream, Deloitte, Dell EMC, Fexco, Fidlelity Investments, Glanbia, Google, IBM, Intel, Jaguar, Janssen, KPMG, Laya Healthcare, Liebherr, Newsweaver, PFH, Pilz, QUMAS, Siemens, Smarttech, Stryker, Teamwork, Tyco, Workday, VMware, Zenith, Zeto, and others.

BSc Data Science and Analytics

The BSc Data Science and Analytics aims to ensure that graduates are work-ready, and work placement is a core module in year 3. You will complete a work placement from Spring until Autumn. You will work with Career Services to find a suitable placement company – they will help you with interviews and keep in contact with you during the placement.

Working in a company setting provides you with additional skills that cannot be taught through lectures or in the laboratory. You will work as part of a team to solve real problems. The work placement is jointly monitored by a UCC staff member and an employee of the company.

BA Digital Arts and Humanities

You have the option to undertake a work placement in third year (9-12 months) and return to UCC the following year to complete your studies OR you can exit after taking year three.  Generally, work placement is paid. The career service will support you to find placement in a organisation, develop your résumé and prepare for interview. During placement you will be supervised by UCC staff member.

BA Psychology and Computing

You have the option to undertake a work placement in third year (9-12 months) and return to UCC the following year to complete your studies OR you can exit after taking year three.  Generally, work placement is paid.
