Victoria Cross Student Accommodation
This project was part of UCC's plan to increase it's stock of student accommodation to c. 1,500 beds. UCC purchased this site in 2002 and proposed to develop the site for purpose built student accommodation under the Department of Finance Section 50 Scheme.
A 'design and build' competition was held in 2003 with the scheme proposed by Fleming Construction chosen as the preferred scheme. A planning application was submitted on 20 August 2003 and Cork City Council awarded permission on 27 February 2004. An appeal was lodged and a decision from An Bord Pleanala was received on 29 July 2004 which resulted in the bed numbers being reduced to 175. The scheme incorporates a number of street side commercial units.
