Huge congratulations to our PhD student Aideen McCabe, under the supervision of Dr Kellie Dean, who was chosen as the winner of UCC’s 2024 Three Minute Thesis Competition.

The School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology are delighted to announce that University College Cork, Rau Consulting and Bio Pharma Technical Consulting have be selected as a finalist in the ‘Talent Acceleration’ category at the Biotech Week Boston (BWB) Awards 2024, for our Springboard+ and HCI-funded Postgraduate Course in Advanced Cell and Gene Therapy.

Professor Pavel (Pasha) Baranov, a world leading researcher in Biomolecular Informatics in the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at UCC, has been elected to the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) for his outstanding research contributions to genetic decoding and mRNA (messenger RNA) translation.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Professor Elena Matsa to the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, UCC, following the recent announcement and launch of our strategic collaboration with NIBRT (National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training).

The Eli Lilly Awards for Academic Excellence in Biochemistry and Biotechnology were held on Tuesday, 16^th April.

As part of on-campus activities to promote diversity, inclusion and WiSTEM opportunities, Dr Eoin Fleming (Schools of Biochemistry and Cell Biology/ Pharmacy) was joined by Dr Collette Hand  (Department of Pathology) and students from the Colleges of SEFS and Medicine and Health, in delivering the FANTASTIC DNA workshop to primary school students from North Presentation and Togher Girls National Schools. During the workshops the children got to experience the fun of doing hands-on experiments and learnt about the huge variety of careers you can have in the Life and Health Sciences.

We would like to commend our 4^th year BSc in Biochemistry student, Dylan Gregson, on being accepted onto the hugely prestigious Johnson & Johnson Global Operations Leadership Development GOLD Programme. 

The Pat Allen prize, awarded annually to the best student in MSc Molecular Cell Biology with Bioinnovation for Academic Excellence, was presented to Nerea Hernández Egido.

Congratulations to the MSc in Molecular Cell Biology with Bioinnovation class who graduated recently. This class is the 11th cohort of students to complete this Masters. The School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology wishes you every success in the future!
