22 Feb 2024

Congratulations to UCC MSc Biotechnology students, Anna Carey and Stanford Lloyd Fernandes, recipients of the prestigious Regeneron College Awards, a real celebration of remarkable student achievements.

The 2024 Regeneron College Awards, in collaboration with the University College Cork, took place on Wednesday, February 21st at Regeneron's Industrial Operations and Production Supply (IOPS) facility in Raheen, Limerick. The awards aim to honour and celebrate exceptional research projects undertaken by select scholars pursuing degrees in Science.

Students from University College Cork were given the unique opportunity to compete for awards in Quality Assurance (QA) or Process Science (PS). The students were tasked with the exciting challenge of developing a project based on a topic provided by Regeneron. They then had the chance to present their work to a select group of business representatives, followed by an interactive Q&A session, allowing them to engage directly with Regeneron colleagues.

Once the presentations and engaging discussions concluded, the business representatives deliberated and selected a winner, adding a thrilling element of suspense to the event. The victorious students receive a substantial bursary to aid their academic pursuits, a paid internship at Regeneron, and the guidance of a Regeneron employee mentor to help navigate the early stages of their careers.

The awards provide a glimpse into the potential of a career in Science and STEM within one of the world's leading innovative companies. Regeneron was delighted to welcome a variety of external guests, including esteemed members of the University College Cork, as well as the proud friends and families of the award winners.

Niall O’Leary, Senior Vice President, and Site Lead IOPS Raheen, commented: “Regeneron has a longstanding symbiotic relationship with both UCC and UL and these awards represent our commitment to nurturing talent and helping develop leaders of the future. We congratulate all award recipients; their perseverance and talent exemplify the spirit of UCC’s commitment to fostering academic excellence”.
