The Biochemistry and Biotechnology society hosted the annual MSc Biotechnology seminar on Wednesday the 8th of November.

Professor Tommie McCarthy from the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology is the Director of this MSc programme Students from many undergraduate degree streams such as Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genetics, Physiology and Neuroscience were in attendance to obtain some information about the course. Professor McCarthy explained the profile of a successful candidate and the straightforward application process that is involved. Applications are now open and will close next year once all places have been successfully filled. To apply, upload a curriculum vitae, motivational statement, and a transcript.

The society was also delighted to welcome BSc Biochemistry and MSc Biotechnology alumni, Maeve O’Sullivan and James Quirke. Maeve completed the programme three years ago and returned to reflect on her positive experience. Maeve, now a Senior Associate Scientist in Janssen Pharmaceuticals, advised on modules and the work placement that is offered on this course. Maeve outlined how the MSc set her on the path to a career in the pharmaceutical industry. James also provided the attendees with excellent insights on the programme from the point of view of a recent graduate. James recommended the course as he gained an array of useful skills that equip him in his day to day role as a QC Process Analyst in Biomarin. The Biochemistry and Biotechnology society would like to thank the speakers for an excellent and informative night.
