Congratulations to Dr Clara Deady who was conferred with a PhD at the Summer Conferring Ceremony in June.

Supervised by Professor Siobhain O'Mahony, Dr Clara Deady was awarded PhD for her thesis 'The Neurodevelopmental Impact of Stress and Inflammation During Pregnancy: Influence of Maternal Microbiome and Gut Health'. Through looking at the prenatal period, she examined the influence that maternal inflammation, antibiotic use, or probiotic use have on the long-term neurodevelopment of exposed offsprings, looking at their behaviour, brain neuroanatomy and neurochemistry, and the microbiome.

A BSc Neuroscience graduate from the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience, Dr Deady is now a Postdoctoral researcher in the O'Mahony/Schellekens Lab working on a project examining the potential effects that synbiotics may have on pre-term birth.

The Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience extends its warmest congratulations to Dr Clara Deady on reaching this significant milestone and wishes her every success in the next stages of her career.
