The PPI Ignite Network@ UCC has released updated Payment and Budgeting Policies for PPI, developed in collaboration with UCC Finance and refined with input from a PPI collaborator to make them clearer, more accessible, and aligned with best practice in recognising PPI contributors.

Ignite Insight: PPI in PhD Research Symposium 2025 showcased and shared perspectives, experiences and learnings of PPI in doctoral research.

The PPI-POWER project brought together researchers and family carers to explore how to make Public and Patient Involvement more equitable and effective. Through regular reflection and teamwork, the group built a lasting partnership based on trust, respect, and shared learning.

The aim of this project was to establish a 3CF PPI team, which includes People with Cystic Fibrosis, their partners, parents, siblings, and even (adult >16 yrs old) children. 

A PPI panel was established for the School of Clinical Therapies, to advise on embedding meaningful lived experience within teaching, learning, and research, ensuring that future healthcare education and research reflect the voices of patients and the public.

The VISION-DEAR project brought researchers and people with lived experience of dementia together to co-create a powerful video about meaningful public and patient involvement in research. 

People living with aphasia partnered with UCC researchers to redesign how medication instructions are written and shared. Together, they created easy-to-understand, visually accessible materials.

Expressions of interest are now open for the new PG 7400 Introduction to Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) module. Closing date 8th March, 2024. 

This statement from the PPI Ignite Network is intended to clarify if approval from a research ethics committee is required prior to public and patient involvement in research.

This funding will give researchers an opportunity to significantly enhance Public and Patient (PPI) activities conducted across the University and amongst wider society. The theme for 2023 is Development/ establishment of innovative and meaningful Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) Partnerships.

The first National Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) Festival took place from the 10^th-23^rd October 2022.

On the 11^{th of} October 2022, students and PPI contributors from the Collaborative Doctoral Programme in Chronic Disease Prevention (CDP-CDP) shared their experiences of PPI at the online PPI Shared Learning Group for PhD students.

On the 21^st of October, PPI Ignite Network@ UCC hosted a lunchtime seminar on PPI in HRB Funding Applications and Official Launch of the Digital Badge in PPI in Research.

PPI Ignite Network@ UCC hosted a free public event to introduce members of the public to PPI on Saturday the 22^nd of October. 

This seminar entitled About Us... How can we achieve greater, meaningful involvement of persons with intellectual disability in research? is being held in University College Cork and will be co-hosted by PPI Ignite Network@ UCC and id+ project Certificate in Inclusive Disability Practice Students. Everyone welcome!

Public & patient involvement: connecting communities 

PPI Ignite Network@ UCC and the Institute for Social Science in the 21st century (ISS21) hosted a lunchtime seminar on the 3rd December, 2021. 

On the 5th November, 2021, Professor Derek C Stewart delivered the first PPI Ignite Network@ UCC lunchtime seminar.

A virtual event was held on Friday 8^th of October, 2021 to officially launch PPI Ignite Network@ UCC.

Minister of State for Disability Anne Rabbitte T.D. has officially launched the PPI Ignite Network, a new national collaborative initiative putting patients at the centre of decision-making in research.
