Showcasing PPI in PhD Research at UCC
A dynamic showcase brought students and PPI contributors together to share diverse PPI approaches in PhD research at UCC. The morning was filled with insightful presentations, discussion and collaboration.
The PPI Ignite Network @ UCC was delighted to host an in-person PPI in PhD Research Showcase on Tuesday 9th of December, bringing together UCC PhD students, researchers and PPI contributors for a morning of learning, discussion and celebration of good practice.

The event invited students and contributors, regardless of prior PPI experience, to explore the many ways that meaningful involvement can be embedded in doctoral research across disciplines. Facilitated and hosted by Dr Emmy Racine, Programme Manager at the PPI Ignite Network @ UCC, the session created a supportive space for sharing experiences and building new connections.

Three presenters, Paula Leocadio, Katarina Medved and Aideen McCabe, shared insights from their PhD research, each demonstrating a unique and thoughtful approach to embedding PPI. Coming from different schools and research areas across UCC, the presenters showcased the breadth of PPI practice within the University.

In addition to the presentations, the showcase featured open discussions and opportunities for networking, allowing attendees to reflect on challenges and exchange practical strategies with peers and PPI contributors. At the close of the session, attendees were invited to nominate one presenter to be put forward for the National PPI Awards, and Dr Aideen McCabe was selected as UCC's nominee.

The PPI in PhD Research Showcase marked a meaningful moment for students and contributors alike, highlighting the growing momentum of PPI across UCC. We extend our thanks to all who attended, supported the discussions and contributed to making the day such a success. The PPI Ignite Network @ UCC looks forward to continuing to support PhD students in developing and enhancing their PPI practice.
