7 Oct 2025

Congratulations to Professor Sanathana Konugolu Venkata Sekar who is Head of FAST Biophotonics, Tyndall National Institute and Associate Professor in the School of Physics, UCC for being selected as one of the Photonics100 for 2026.

Europa Science Representatives have stated that Sanathana's "remarkable work in the photonics industry has made a significant impact, and this recognition reflects his contributions, expertise, and dedication to advancing the field."

The Photonics100 2026 event celebrates the Industry’s Most Innovative Minds. In London, UK on September 24, 2025, Electro Optics announced the 2026 edition of The Photonics100, recognising Sanathana Konugolu's work which leads transformative work at the intersection of biophotonics, health equity, photonic integration, and technology standardisation. Sanathana's research integrates cutting-edge optical science with real-world impact, addressing urgent global challenges in healthcare accessibility, diagnostic reliability, and inclusive innovation.

In 2024, Prof Konugolu Venkata Sekar was awarded a prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Grant for his groundbreaking project, NOBIAS, which directly tackles racial bias in non-invasive optical health monitoring.

Complementing this, he is also the Co-Founder and CEO of BioPixS, the world’s first spin-out dedicated to standardisation in biophotonics.
