The Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and Midwifery hosted the Student Awards 2017 in Brookfield Health Sciences Complex UCC
The School of Nursing and Midwifery held its second annual student awards ceremony on Thursday 27th April. The ceremony was about recognising the exceptional and talented students that are engaged in various activities within and outside the School.
This year’s winners were:
Mr Mohamad Saab – Postgraduate Student of the Year
Ms Siobhan Collins – Undergraduate Student of the Year
Ms Dana Williams – Award for Contribution to Community Engagement
Ms Sarah O Donovan – Award for Outstanding Contribution to Student Life
Mr Donal Fallon – Student Leader of the Year
Ms Ali-Rose Sisk – Award for Outstanding Contribution to Sport
Ms Christina Doohan – Award for Outstanding Contribution to Arts and Entertainment
The final award was the Patricia J Power Award for Excellence in Clinical practice. Three candidates were shortlisted and were interviewed by Professor Eileen Savage and Dr Helen Mulcahy. The candidates, Laura Coleman, Samantha Galvin and Ryan Goulding were all very worthy recipients, however this year’s award went to Mr Ryan Goulding, a 4th year mental health nursing student. The award was presented by Ms Ger Cagney, a niece of the late Patricia Power.
Dr Aine Horgan, this year’s MC for the ceremony stated that “it was wonderful to see students with such wide ranging and exceptional capabilities, the addition of Christina Doohan, an integrated children’s and general nurse playing the fiddle at the ceremony was fantastic. Gillian O Sullivan, one of Irelands most successful athletes spoke eloquently about the ups and downs of achieving your dreams in life.”
