The first cohort of visiting Nursing and Midwifery students from the University of Brunei Darussalam recently completed their programme of study in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, UCC as part of their Bachelor in Nursing and Midwifery degrees. Six of the students spent 12 months in the School, while the other three students studied for one semester. While at UCC, the students completed a broad programme of study including a clinical simulation module which focussed on developing their observational skills in relation to the immediate management of the deteriorating patient. This module increased both their confidence and skills in managing the acutely ill patient. Additionally, they took modules in management and leadership, health promotion, primary care, cancer nursing, healthy aging and the older adult, mental health, midwifery, nursing science and advanced communication skills. They also completed clinical placements in one or two of the following: midwifery, cancer care, ear nose and throat, orthopaedics, accident and emergency, mental health, primary care, older adult and cardiovascular nursing.
