UCC Guest Wireless Internet Service
Requesting access to the Guest Wireless Internet Service.
All guests must be sponsored by a full time UCC staff member who can apply to the UCC IT Services on their behalf. Contact the helpdesk at (021) 490 2120 or email helpdesk@ucc.ie .
Required Information
You can request access to the Guest Wi-Fi by clicking on the following link and select Wi-Fi web-form: https://servicedesk.ucc.ie
When requesting guest wireless accounts for individuals or groups the following information is required.
- Name, email address & phone number of staff member requesting access:
- Conference/Event name (if available):
- Number of users (estimated):
- Start date:
- End Date:
Please Note:
- Granting guest access to the Wireless Internet Service usually takes one working day, however to avoid disappointment please request the required access at the earliest opportunity.
- The lifetime of the guest account must be specified as part of the request and should be no longer than 3 months.
- One account will be given for individuals or groups for durations no longer than 1 month. It can be used by all guests. The staff member requesting access will be responsible for taking account of all guests that avail of the credentials and must retain that information in case there are any issues with breach of UCC's AUP (Acceptable Usage Policy).
- For durations longer than a month individual accounts will be created with a maximum of 2 devices being able to connect at any one time.
- This service is only intended for use by guests of the University and the existing services for staff should be used by staff members.
- The guest account (username and Password) cannot be used with any other UCC networked services.
- Guests own institutions may be members of eduroam and could therefore have instant access to Wi-Fi. See here for UCC's eduroam page.
Please do the following when using Guest Wi-Fi access for Conferences
- The staff member requesting guest access should retain a delegate list if the delegates are all registered for the event but if it is ad-hoc, please take the guests details before handing the credentials out.
- Please do not publish the account details in places outside the conference rooms where passers-by could avail of it. It would be best to pass the details out in the delegate pack or to display it at the start of any of the presentations.
Connecting to the Guest Wireless Internet Service
Connection is simple with no configuration of the device required. The user simply chooses to join "UCC Guests" network on their device as they would do for other wireless networks and after they open a browser they will be redirected to the UCC Guest Wireless Service landing page which in turn will prompt for the username and password. The user will have to accept the terms and conditions of the Universities Acceptable Usage Policy which can be found here to connect.
