eduroam (EDUcation ROAMing) is the secure, world-wide roaming infrastructure used by affiliated research and educational facilities to allow their staff, students and researchers to visit other participating institutions and continue to have wireless connectivity .

Being part of eduroam allows users to access a wireless network at a visited participating institution simply using by using credentials (i.e. username and password) assigned to them by their home institution.

UCC is still in the process of setting up EDUROAM. Please check back again for further updates.

Coming to UCC

Please ensure that you have established that you have eduroam access granted with your home site before travelling.

Make sure you know your logon credentials i.e. username and password.

Make sure your browser proxy settings are set to automatically detect.

UCC Role

UCC is both a Service provider and an Identity Provider. These terms are explained below.

  • Service Provider (SP):  we provide access to eduroam to people visiting from other eduroam institutions.
  • Identity Provider (IdP): we provide access to eduroam for our staff and students that visit other eduroam affiliated institutions.

Wireless network details

The specifics of eduroam here at U.C.C. are as follows.

  • The broadcast SSID is: eduroam
  • 802.1x Authentication is used
  • Authentication is via PEAP specifically EAP-MSCHAPv2
  • WPA2(enterprise) security protocol is used with AES encryption.
  • The logon credentials are those provided to you by your home site.

Ports available

When using the wireless as well as web browsing, you will also be able to use SSH, POP, IMAP and most VPN clients. A more detailed list is shown below.

  • TCP Ports : http: 80, https: 443, proxy: 8080/3128, SSH: 22, IMAP: 143, IMAPS: 993, POP: 110, POPS: 995, SMTP: 25/465/587
  • PPTP : tcp port: 1723, ip protocol: 47
  • L2TP : udp port: 500/1701/4500, ip protocol: 51
  • OpenVPN : udp port: 1194, tcp port: 1194AUP
