Tomas Tyner retires from UCC
Marking his 35th year working in UCC, Tomás Tyner retired in November 2024.
Tomás Tyner celebrated his 35th year working in UCC this year, which also marks his retirement from UCC. Throughout his tenure as University Photographer, Tomás has captured thousands of events, visits, conferrings, and headshots (almost 2,000!) to mention a few projects he has worked on. The consistent hallmark of his work has been the high-quality production of imagery that truly showcases our campus and its people. Tomás has a talent for making people feel comfortable through good conversation and a few jokes. This ability not only put people at ease but also resulted in fantastic photos, making many of us in UCC look our very best over the years. Tomás’s career highlights, there are too many to mention, but one was being listed as the top University photographers to follow on social media by Photoshelter in 2021. Additionally, a selection of books where Tomás was the principal photographer included:
· The Modern Art Collection, University College Cork (published 1998)
· Peripheral Nerve Blocks and Peri-operative Pain Relief (Published 2004)
· Atlas of Cork City (Published 2005)
Before Tomás went on sick leave in December 2023 he signed over his negatives, transparencies and corresponding files to the UCC Archives ensuring all his catalogued and referenced digital images were securely archived. This ensured that UCC continues to benefit from his exceptional work.
IT Services and UCC will greatly miss working with Tomás. We want to thank him for being an outstanding colleague, and mentor to many, over his 35 years at UCC.
