On 6 November 2017 the ISS21 Caring Research Working Group hosted a seminar on family caring in Ireland, at which reports from two IRC New Foundations projects were officially launched.

Presentations from the project directors – Dr. Carol Kelleher and Dr. Jacqui O’Riordan – were followed by a panel discussion with Senator Colette Kelleher, Mick Barry (TD) and representatives from ISS21, Care Alliance Ireland, Family Carers Ireland and West Cork Carers Support Group. The seminar concluded with an wide-ranging and insightful Q&A session with members of the audience, several of whom were carers themselves. Dr. Claire Edwards, Director of ISS21, opened the seminar and chaired the panel group discussion.

The two reports emerging from the research are:

A Fine Balance: Mental Health and Family Caring. Jacqui O’ Riordan and Carol Kelleher

Post-Caregiving: Family Carers’ Experiences of Cessation of the Caring Role: implications for policy and practice. Dr Carol Kelleher and Dr Jacqui O’ Riordan ISS21, University College Cork in collaboration with West Cork Carers Support Group, Family Carers Ireland and Care Alliance Ireland
