Minister Sean Sherlock visits ISS21

Minister of State for Research and Innovation Sean Sherlock TD visited ISS21 on 10th February 2014.

The Institute for Social Science in the 21st Century (ISS21) was delighted to welcome Minister Sean Sherlock TD to UCC to meet with staff, researchers and all members of the Institute on Monday the 10th February at 2pm.

The purpose of the event was to present the Institute’s research and activities in relation to the policy implications, impact and value of the social sciences. Four key issues were addressed in a series of brief presentations followed by a discussion led by ISS21 members:

Policy-relevance and importance of social science research

Engagement of ISS21 research with policy and communities

Importance of interdisciplinarity, internationalisation and research excellence in what we do

Need for support for integration, capacity-building and investment in social science research
