'Every Moment Counts: Promoting mental wellbeing and inclusion in Irish schools', Monday 13th November 2023, 1-2pm

13 Nov 2023
Online Seminar

Dr Susan Bazyk and colleagues will present on their innovative work in school inclusion models in the USA, integrating therapy and education. The online seminar aims to present an overview of a multitiered school-based model of practice that underpins the Every Moment Counts programme and aligns with the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) model of school inclusion initiative in development in Ireland.

Overview of the Every Moment Counts initiative

Small moments make a big difference in how children feel and function in school. Research confirms that positive interactions and experiences (e.g., enjoying lunch, having fun during breaktimes) help children feel positive and connected to school, and contributes significantly to belonging and well-being. Every Moment Counts is a multi-tiered interdisciplinary mental health promotion initiative developed in the USA that focuses on helping all children and youth participate in and enjoy activities throughout the school day in inclusive classroom, lunchbreak, and after-school settings.

Dr Bazyk’s Fulbright visiting scholar scheme is being hosted by the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, UCC in collaboration with the NCSE.

Seminar PowerPoint slides will be available shortly on this site.
