Study Abroad at a glance for 1st years
WHO?
- UCC students whose 4 year undergraduate degree offers a study abroad option in 3rd year
- Some programmes have minimum grade requirements set in place for students to be eligible to apply in the first instance
- Exchange places are limited and places at popular universities are very competitive
Students who are curious, open‑minded, and willing to adapt benefit most from studying abroad. It’s especially valuable for those seeking personal growth, global perspectives, or career advantages. You don’t need to be outgoing or certain about your future—just willing to learn and step outside your comfort zone.
WHERE?
- Europe through Erasmus+
- Outside Europe: Asia, Australia, Canada, Latin American, Singapore, USA
- Degree programme‑dependent on where you can study
- Study at official UCC partner universities only
- List of partners can change each year
WHAT?
- A semester or full academic year abroad
- International pathway degree- Mandatory year abroad
- Completed in 3rd year of your degree ONLY
- Study similar modules, sit exams abroad
- Full academic recognition at UCC
WHEN?
- 1st year: Start researching your options
- Semester 1, 2nd year: Apply for study abroad
- February: Application results released
- 3rd year: Go abroad

When will the study abroad information sessions take place?
- Study abroad information sessions begin October of your 2nd year
- If you have a mandatory year abroad: You will be provided an information session by your department
- BComm- The International Office will provide a presentation in collaboration with the BComm programme director
- School of BEES- The International Office will provide a presentation in collaboration with the BEES programme director
- All other degree programmes: sign up here to be notified about the general study abroad information session that takes place in October/November each year
