For their Final Year Production, the class has devised three original short plays, each inspired by visual prompts. Using images of their choice as a starting point, the students collaboratively explored the emotions, narratives, and conflicts these images evoked, shaping their discoveries into fully realised performances. Through this creative process, they uncovered themes of love, loss, deception, and betrayal—each play approaching these ideas from a unique perspective. This trio of performances offers the audience a broad emotional and thematic range, from the personal to the mythical, from the deeply intimate to the widely resonant. The result is a compelling showcase of devised theatre, highlighting the students’ ability to transform visual inspiration into layered storytelling.
Though distinct in content and tone, the performances Remains, Codail go Sámh and The Sound of the Sea share a deep engagement with complex human experiences. One piece delves into the weight of survivor’s guilt, examining how those left behind grapple with responsibility and memory. Another draws upon Irish mythology, weaving past and present together in a story of fate, folklore, and identity. The third explores the tensions within sibling relationships, where rivalry, secrecy, and unresolved histories come to the surface.
These pieces were created as part of the module DR3031: Final Year Performance.
