Biography: Dr Helen Gubbins is an ethnomusicologist and performer with an abiding interest in the interaction of media and traditional musics. She is also an occasional lecturer, recording artist, and full-time secondary school teacher. She was awarded her PhD by the University of Sheffield on the topic of traditional and folk music on Irish public radio, funded by a University of Sheffield Doctoral Academy Scholarship and a National University of Ireland Travelling Studentship. She is currently co-editing the upcoming Special Issue of Ethnomusicology Ireland on the theme of "Broadcasting music and dance"; her writing has also been published in the Routledge popular music edited collection, Made in Ireland, as well as in British Postgraduate Musicology. Helen has lectured at University College Cork, University College Dublin, Mary Immaculate College, the University of Sheffield, Newcastle University, and Berea College Kentucky.
