Haunted Futures Conference 2025 12th–14th November
The third annual Haunted Futures Conference will take place in the Department of Film and Screen Media at University College Cork from 12–14 November 2025.
Convened by Dr Ellen Scally and Dr Rachel Gough, this year’s conference explores haunting as a powerful site for radical social transformation. By disrupting hegemonic relationships to time, haunting opens pathways for imagining alternative futures within the capitalocene, while amplifying the voices of marginalised and exploited identities—both human and more-than-human.
In addition to academic panels, the conference will feature a curated selection of creative practice, including film screenings, short stories, and musical performances, with the aim of bridging artistic expression and scholarly research.
This year’s theme, Haunted Technologies, invites delegates to present papers on topics such as artificial intelligence, fossil fuels, obsolete technologies, and haunted screens. Presentations will also engage with broader themes including spectrality, the gothic, folklore, and more.
