The Talking Heads Toastmasters club, based in Garryvoe in East Cork, is a thriving and supportive community dedicated to helping people improve their public speaking and leadership skills. Meeting regularly at the Garryvoe Hotel, the club draws members from all walks of life across East Cork, united by a shared desire to become more confident communicators. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced speaker, Talking Heads offers a friendly, encouraging environment where everyone is welcome to learn at their own pace.

To celebrate the end of their season, the club organised a special summer evening outing on Friday, 7th June 2025. Members travelled to the historic Regal Cinema in Youghal for a private screening of the locally produced documentary, "Recollections." This fascinating film provided an engaging look back at the rich history of Youghal, featuring rare footage and stories from the town’s past. The screening was made possible thanks to the warm hospitality of Killian Daly and the Regal Cinema staff, who ensured the group felt right at home.

After the film, club members enjoyed an insightful Q&A session with Kieran Groeger, a local historian and contributor to the film, and Michael Hussey, who made the film at UCC’s Film and Screen Department back in 2016. The discussion centred on the Owens Collection of historic photographs, generously donated by former Minister for Justice, Nora Owens. These images, and the stories behind them, sparked lively conversation and deepened the group’s appreciation for local heritage. Nora Owens herself is due to visit Youghal later in the month for a special screening of her section of the film.
