From Roger Corman to Bette Davis: A Career in Film - Deac Rossell Tues 31st January @ 4pm

Deac Rossell will discuss his career in cinema as a film journalist for publications such as Boston After Dark, the Boston Phoenix, Boston Magazine and The Boston Globe as well as his work as a programmer for the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Directors Guild of America, the UCLA Film and Television Archive and the National Film Theatre, London.
He will also discuss his career as an academic in Goldsmiths College, University of London, and his extensive publication record in early cinema, magic lantern culture, and chronophotography. He is author of Living Pictures. The Origins of the Movies (SUNY Press, 1998; American Library Association Choice Award), Faszination der Bewegung: Ottomar Anschütz zwischen Photographie und Kino (Stroemfeld/Roter Stern, 2001), Laterna Magica - Magic Lantern (Füsslin, 2008), A Chronology of the Birth of Cinema, 1832 - 1896 (John Libbey, 2022) as well as essays, chapters in edited collections and journal articles in six languages. He has been a trustee of South London Community Music, International Film Seminars (Flaherty Seminar), The Ford Hall Forum and other organizations in both Britain and the United States.
