Awards to doctoral researchers from UCC's Strategic Research Fund

Congratulations to Laura McKenna and Eoin O'Callaghan
Laura McKenna, who is working on a PhD in Creative Writing supervised by Eibhear Walshe, was awarded an annual stipend of €10,000 per year. She is working on a novel about the relationship between Lord Edward Fitzgerald and his African-American servant, Toby Small). Eoin O'Callaghan, currently in the second year of his PhD research on the author William Faulkner under the supervision of Lee Jenkins, received an award of €3,000. This award will enable him to make a research trip to the University of Virginia in order to study Faulkner's manuscript materials. Having been Writer-in-Residence at Virginia from 1957 to 1959, Faulkner bequeathed the majority of his personal papers to the University upon his death in 1962. Eoin will also liaise with Jahan Ramazani, Edgar F. Shannon Professor at the University of Virginia and one of the leading scholars of transnational theory in the world today.
