Transition Year Programme at BEES

Wed, 1 Feb 2012

TY2012 participants at the School of BEES Transition year students are getting the chance to discover science at UCC through a structured programme launched by the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES) this week.

The students get the opportunity to study and work alongside BEES staff and students for a week and get a feel for areas like Plant Science, Zoology, Environmental Science and Geology. The week will also see the students visiting the Eureka Centre, the Boole Library and getting a guided tour of the UCC campus.

Grace Cott, co-ordinator of the BEES Structured Transition Year Programme said that this is the first year the programme is taking place: “It aims to deliver a comprehensive experience of working in the area of Zoology, Ecology, Geology, Plant Science and Environmental Science through a series of lectures and practicals. It also offers the students a chance to participate in various degree courses and avail of the facilities in UCC. We hope the students enjoy their time here and benefit from the different activities, ultimately assisting them in choosing their future careers!”

The students are writing about their experiences at the School of BEES on the BEES Blog.
