CARING AND EDUCATING FOR DEMOCRACY

Members of the Scenario Team (Manfred Schewe, Fionn Woodhouse, Sukhesh Arora) have taken on a lead role in an Irish Aid funded project entitled 

Performative Approaches to Education for Democracy in third level and community contexts, with a specific focus on third level education in India, Ireland and Malawi (Project Coordination: Gertrude Cotter, Department of Education, UCC)

The project is based on the premise that democracy is not a theoretical construct that exists by itself; democracy only exists through people who live it and help to shape it by thinking and acting. 

The project is ongoing and we aim to share further information in the months to come.

As populist movements, across and beyond Europe, are increasingly destabilising democratic societies, we feel there is an urgency for educational institutions to develop models of performative practice that further democratic agency.

We invite colleagues in our steadily growing international network of scholars, teachers, artists and practitioners to share their models of practice and/or any other information (references, links etc) with us by filling in this form:
