In 2020, UCC celebrates the 175th anniversary of its foundation. News on events marking or relating to this historic milestone will be added to this section throughout the year.
- Thursday, 30 January 2020: ‘What a Country the State’s In – Reflection on the development of the Irish Welfare State’, a lecture by Prof Cathal O’Connell (School of Applied Social Studies, UCC), Aula Maxima, 6pm. This is the first lecture in the Inaugural UCC 175 CACSSS Research Excellence Series 2020-21 (College of Arts, Celtic Studies, and Social Sciences)
- Monday, 3 February 2020: ‘Poles in UCC after the Second World War’, a talk by Dr Bozena Cierlic (School of History, UCC), West Wing 7, 11am. Part of Refugee Week. The reception of these Polish students in 1946 was “the first time in the history of UCC that a group of students from abroad have come to this country for their education” – in effect, UCC’s first major intake of international students.
