The 24th European Stroke Conference (ESC) Austria

The 24th European Stroke Conference (ESC) was held in Vienna Austria from the 13-15th of May. The ESC is a leading stroke conference in Europe and worldwide, annually attended by more than 3,500 clinical researchers, basic scientists, clinicians, AHPs, nurses and students of many medical specialties. This year there were a number of highly attractive and innovative topics which were presented and discussed in oral and electronic poster sessions.
Dr. Irene Hartigan presented an oral paper entitled ‘Factors that influence Psychosocial Adaptation Post Stroke’. A number of links were fostered especially after the Q&A session. Also, there was a special symposium of Stroke and the arts- this was dedicated to the analysis of complex disease patterns with artists who have suffered a stroke and the consequences of such an incident discussed for the artistic power and creativity as well as the introduction of alternative therapeutic approaches to care. All abstracts accepted for the conference are published in the scientific Journal of Cerebrovascular Diseases which has an impact factor of 4.
