Minister for Health Launches new National Nursing Module in Critical Care

Minister for Health Mr. Simon Harris TD officially launched Ireland's first accredited National Foundation Education Module in Critical Care Nursing

On September 20th Minister for Health Mr. Simon Harris TD officially launched Ireland's first accredited National Foundation Education Module in Critical Care Nursing in the Conference Hall at the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine of Ireland(JFICMI) building, 22 Merrion Sq, Dublin 2. The School of Nursing and Midwifery, UCC in partnership with the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems, UCD are very proud of their role in the accreditation, delivery and assessment of the National Foundation Education Module, which commenced in UCD on Oct. 4th, and in UCC on Oct. 6th. 2017. The module team for UCC are Dr. Seán Kelleher (Coordinator), Dr. Tom Andrews, Carol Condon, Damien Drohan, Nuala Walshe, Sinead O’ Brien and Clare O’ Farrell.

"This is truly an example of positive partnership and collaboration across many areas of healthcare and academia. In Ireland we are fortunate to have a highly skilled nursing workforce, with knowledge, skill and compassion that are second to none. It is this mixture of the head and heart that has garnered enormous respect from the public and made nursing central to the delivery of our health services. I recognise that the critical care environment is a highly complex and challenging area in which to work, and just how vital it is to ensure that professional development opportunities and supports are available. This is why it is imperative that we support such developments, and I am delighted to say that over the next five years, the Office of Nursing and Midwifery Service Director will be funding 600 Critical Care nurses to undertake this crucial education module which has been developed collaboratively by the Critical Care Programme and ONMSD and will be delivered by UCC and UCD."
