Dr Adam Hanna receives IRC New Foundations grant

Dr Adam Hanna, a Lecturer in Irish Literature in the Department of English, has been awarded an IRC New Foundations grant for his project 'Seamus Heaney and the Visual Arts', which he will carry out in collaboration with the Glucksman Gallery.
This project seeks to uncover the many conversations and confluences between Seamus Heaney and his artist contemporaries. Over a long career Heaney collaborated with them on special editions and broadsides; he wrote introductions to catalogues of their works; he sought their advice on the cover art for his collections. Most importantly, he wrote a body of extraordinary ekphrastic poetry inspired by their work. Painters and sculptors played a central role in Heaney’s life; this project will draw attention to their presence in his poetry.
