UCC Staff Recognition Awards
Congratulations to the Urban Farm Team and to Luke Harman who picked up awards at the recent UCC Staff Recognition Awards.
The Urban Farm Team, led by Dr Barbara Doyle Prestwich collected the Cross Campus Engagement Award for their innovative use of aeroponic towers to engage a diverse audience with plants and crop production. As well as various schools and visiting groups, the Urban Farm Team engaged colleagues from across the University with a growing project. Team members included Dr Michelle Cronin (RIP), formerly MaREI; Dr Martha Gosch , School of BEES; Ms Mairead Kiely, School of BEES; Dr Eoin Lettice, School of BEES and Dr Mary O'Shaughnessy, Department of Food Business and Development. The Urban Farm project was funded by the UCC Green Campus, Living Lab initiative.
The Urban Farm Team dedicated their award to the memory of their much-missed colleague Dr Michelle Cronin who was instrumental in the establishment of the project. Members of Dr Cronin's family were present at the recent awards ceremony.
Luke Harman, Senior Technical Officer at the School of BEES was awarded the Outstanding Colleague Award for his significant contribution to the work of the School which was outlined on the night in an address given by Dr Tom Doyle, School of BEES.
President of UCC, Prof. John O'Halloran congratulated all the winners on their achievements. "This year’s nominations demonstrate the exceptionally high calibre of our staff across UCC and the high regard in which nominees are held by the colleagues who nominated them for an award. We have many outstanding individuals and teams among us."
