Geology graduate wins national mapping prize

Vincent Twomey Vincent Twomey, who graduated from the School with a first class degree in Geology this summer, has been awarded the Cunningham Prize by the Geological Survey of Ireland for his Honours mapping thesis entitled “The Geology of the Ben Arnaboll area of Sutherland, UK”.

This prize is awarded for the best field Honours mapping project submitted by an undergraduate in Geology in Ireland.  Vince is now studying for an MSc in Simon Fraser University in Vancouver.

Our best Geology graduates have an excellent record in this annual competition, previous winners include Willy McCarthy (2008) and Dave McCarthy (2009), (both IRCSET funded postgraduates in the School) and Hugh O’Leary (2010) currently working for Moultrie in Queensland.
