UCC Sports announces 23/24 Sports Scholarships
98 students across 18 sports have been awarded UCC Sports Scholarships for 2023-2024. The announcement was made at the launch of the 23.24 programmes at the UCC Sports Grounds in the Mardyke Pavilion on the 27th of October.

Irish sports stars of tomorrow from across 8 counties have had their talent and hard work recognised with UCC Sports Scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year.
A total of 98 students across 18 sports, hailing from Cork, Tipperary, Limerick, Kilkenny, Cavan, Kerry, Waterford, Clare and Liverpool have been awarded, with the recipients named at the launch of the 23.24 programmes at the UCC Sports Grounds in the Mardyke Pavilion on the 27th of October.
The UCC Sport Scholarship programme aims to support athletes achieve their full potential and is divided into two main strands UCC Team Sport Scholarships and UCC Individual Sport Scholarship.
Through the scholarship programme our students will be supported to develop and progress in their journey as talented athletes and meeting their academic goals through our UCC Sport Performance Programme. The purpose of UCC Sport’s performance programme is to support UCC teams and athletes perform to their full potential.
The programme is tailored for UCC’s sports scholarship students and the university’s elite teams and athletes performing at top level sport in 3rd level sport, Cork, Munster, Ireland and internationally.
The university works with its clubs, coaches and specialist staff in the areas of sports science, conditioning, nutrition, sports medicine, sports physiology and sports analysis. UCC also works in partnership with national governing bodies, provincial sports organisations, and with Sport Ireland in the delivery of their high performance strategy.
Speaking at the announcement today, UCC President John O’Halloran said, “UCC values and recognises our outstanding student athletes and the major contribution they make to themselves, sports, their communities, families and schools. We thank our extraordinary coaches, volunteers, Clubs Executive and staff who are supporting them. We also would like to express our sincere gratitude to our sponsors who support our scholarship programme – Bank of Ireland, Gym+Coffee; MJ Dowling; Moss Keane family and the UCC GAA Alumni. These sponsors and their support make a significant contribution to the development and success of our athletes."
Morgan Buckley, Head of UCC Sport said, “Congratulations to all our teams, and athletes. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and their coaches, volunteers and clubs who support them with our great staff and services in UCC. The services we can provide to our performance teams and athletes are greatly enhanced by the UCC Sport scholarship programme. Our priority is to ensure they can balance their studies and sport. We are delighted to be able to continue to secure the Accreditation for Student-Athlete Support standard (ASAS) which is an accreditation recently developed and launched by Sport Ireland aimed at providing equal opportunity to all high-performing student-athletes to combine sport and education.”(UCC Sport ASAS)
