The Strategic Importance of Athena Swan
The Athena Swan Ireland charter supports us in developing sustainable equity, diversity and inclusion. UCC has held a bronze award since 2016 and is committed to supporting and participating in Athena Swan. As well as our institutional application, many departments are actively engaged in the initiative, with our colleagues in the School of Clinical Therapies being awarded their first Bronze Award in April 2023 (as well as Computer Science and IT, and Mathematical Sciences). This is a key pillar of Ireland’s national strategy for gender equality with progress linked to institutional eligibility for funding from Ireland’s major research agencies.
