DEPARTMENT OF ITALIAN RESEARCH SEMINAR
‘From Venice to Damascus in Eighty Days: Texts in Transit in the Early Modern World’
Professor Brendan Dooley, UCC
Wednesday, 11 February 2009
2.00-3.00 p.m., O'Rahilly Building, Room 1.24
Narratives and images regarding current events and rumours moved across Europe along the main travel and mail routes between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Attempting to trace these texts and the picture of the world that emerged from them is an exercise in ‘cognitive cartography.’
Brendan Dooley is Professor of Renaissance Studies in the Graduate School of CACSSS and in the Texts, Contexts and Cultures Programme .
All welcome.
