Launch of Maria Edgeworth, by Dr Clíona Ó Gallchoir

Friday 3 September sees the launch of a new book by our colleague Dr Clíona Ó Gallchoir. Maria Edgeworth is a new critical introduction to Edgeworth published as part of the Key Irish Women Writers Series from Edward Everett Root.
The book is aimed at students and readers seeking an overview of Edgeworth’s work. It encompasses the full scope of her career and a broad range of her extensive oeuvre, incorporating insights from the considerable body of new critical work on Edgeworth that has emerged in recent decades. Particular focus is given to her Irish fiction, her examination of women’s lives and roles, and her work in education and children’s literature. It has been described by Susan Manly as ‘a sparkling, lucid book, hugely enjoyable to read, richly insightful and suggestive’. The book will be launched by Dr Maureen O’Connor, together with other volumes in the series, as part of the online Irish Women’s Writing Network Symposium, ‘Collaborations and Networks’, 3-4 September 2021.
