School of Chemistry students honoured at UCC STEM Awards 2025

The 2025 UCC STEM Awards took place this Wednesday 19 November 2025 in Devere Hall, Áras na Mac Léinn, University College Cork.

students and researchers during the previous academic year. These include high-profile award recipients nominated for recognition by their unit, college-level award winners, and industry-supported scholarships and prizes. Students from within the college who have received university-awarded prizes may also be recognised.

Quercus Scholarships are up to the value of €500 and are awarded based on the results at the end of year university examinations in first, second, and third year, in programmes offered by the College of Science, Engineering, and Food Science. This year's scholars from the School of Chemistry were:

Other undergraduate awards included Quercus University Scholas (Academic) 2025 (for students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement) awarded to Bryan Chan (3rd Year Chemical Physics), and the SEFS Graduate of the Year for which Tara McInerney (BSc Chemistry with Forensic Science) was a Runner-Up.

The College of SEFS Postgraduate Research Publication of the Year Prize is awarded to the best peer-reviewed academic papers submitted by a registered PhD or MSc (research) student in a department/school or a research institute affiliated with the College of SEFS. Each department/school affiliated with the College of SEFS conducted an internal competition and selected the best peer-reviewed academic paper within the discipline, which was then put forward for the College of SEFS Postgraduate Research Publication of the Year Prize. For Chemistry, Vaishali Vardhan was awarded the School's Best Publication Award.
