UCC Sport Athletics Track Resurfacing Works

3 Jun 2025

University College Cork (UCC) is pleased to announce that the UCC Sports Athletics Track will undergo a full resurfacing, with works scheduled to commence on 9th June 2025 by Tony Patterson Sportsgrounds Ltd. The project will continue throughout the coming months, representing a significant investment from UCC Students in the university’s sports infrastructure - following a referendum from the student body who voted to increase the student capitation fee by €50 to develop the outdoor sports facilities.

This upgrade reflects UCC’s ongoing commitment to providing top-tier facilities for students, staff, and the wider community. The new track will enhance training and competition conditions for athletes of all levels and support the continued growth of athletics at UCC.

However, UCC Sport wishes to highlight that the timeline for completion is highly dependent on weather conditions — not only locally, but across Europe. The specialist Mondo installation team, responsible for laying the new surface, will be working on multiple projects throughout the continent this summer. Delays in other locations due to adverse weather could impact the scheduling of works in Cork.

During the construction period, access to the synthetic pitch will be restricted. UCC Department of Sport and Physical Activity encourages clubs and individuals to adhere to the access points in place.

For club athletic track bookings or to inquire about track membership, please contact UCC Sport at sport@ucc.ie.

Stay tuned for updates on the progress of the works and the official reopening date.
