Katie Bergin Makes History with National Indoor 200m Title and Personal Best

University College Cork (UCC) student Katie Bergin has made history by clinching the National Senior Indoor 200m title at the recent championships in Abbottstown, Dublin. Representing Moyne Athletic Club, Bergin's remarkable performance not only earned her a personal best time of 24.03 seconds but also marked the first-ever national senior indoor title in the club's 77-year history.
Bergin, a dedicated Physical Education student at UCC, showcased her exceptional talent and commitment throughout the competition. In the heats, she secured victory with a time of 24.27 seconds, narrowly missing her previous personal best by just 0.01 seconds. This outstanding effort positioned her as the fastest qualifier among 34 athletes, setting the stage for an exhilarating final.
In the final, Bergin's determination was on full display as she dominated the race, finishing in 24.03 seconds and surpassing her previous indoor personal best by 0.23 seconds. This achievement places her joint 14th on the Irish all-time list for the indoor 200m event.
