John Grainger UCC Development Officer on the Ashbourne and Sigerson Finals

5 Feb 2026

The past week, despite the awful weather has seen college GAA teams compete at all levels in their various competitions. For those interested and who may wish to attend or watch, this is what is happening.

The senior Ashbourne Cup camogie team beat UL Tuesday night in their semi final and now play UCD in the final on next Sunday in DCU.

Our Fresher A Footballers play TUSMW in Athlone tonight in their All-Ireland semi-final.

The Purcell Cup Senior B camogie team were beaten by a last-minute goal against Queens after extra time in their semi-final Tuesday night.

The Sigerson Cup senior football team play UoG in the Sigerson semi final tonight in the Mardyke.

Our Fresher A hurlers have their All-Ireland quarter final next week in the Mardyke.

As well as the teams above , our Fresher hurlers, Juniors and Intermediates are all training or playing this week.

Whether we win or lose is down to the Gods and a slice of good luck, but what’s remarkable is that from Tuesday to Thursday over 250 students and 50 volunteer coaches will either coach, train or play for the college.

We are very lucky to have them.

The Sigerson game will be live streamed as will the Ashbourne final on various media channels.

PS. Cannot go without paying compliment to the ground staff in the Mardyke who in all kinds of weather over the past two weeks (and all year) have looked after the GAA pitch so that our students can play and train on it.
