Mitchell and Choctaw Scholars meet with Professor O'Shea
Jessica Militante (Choctaw Ireland Scholar) and Minhal Ahmed (Mitchell Scholar) visited the President's Office on Wednesday 6 November.
The George J Mitchell scholarship programme is a national competitive scholarship sponsored by the US-Ireland Alliance. It is named to honour former US Senator George Mitchell's pivotal contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process. It is designed to introduce and connect generations of future American leaders to the island of Ireland.
The Choctaw-Ireland scholarship was instituted in recognition of the act of generosity and humanitarianism shown by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma towards the people of Ireland during the Great Famine of the mid-Nineteenth century. It is designed to foster and deepen the ties between the two nations today.
