Undergraduate Students

The Dept of Paediatrics and Child Health is a busy department delivering student centred teaching and learning and active research at its core. We cater for  approxmately 400 undergraduate students per year who complete 4 week attachments under our guidance in DEMIV/GEMII and DEMV/GEMIV Medicine programmes. The undergraduate courses are delivered over 6 sites (Cork University Hospital, Mercy University Hospital, Bon Secours Hospital Cork, Kerry University Hospital, Waterford University Hospital and South Tipperary General Hospital) offering students learning in a clinical environment. Teaching is led on these sites by our Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturers and Tutors.

Students learn while working and observing with clinical teams in a hospital based environment during their attachments with learning encouraged on ward rounds and out-patient clinics.  Fourth Med students also get experience in the NICU and community care with students attending community based clinics..  The module also has comprehensive teaching programme including lectures, clinical simulation practice,  small group bedside teaching and tutorials.
