The annual New Horizons Research Conference took place in the Western Gateway Building, UCC on Thursday 10^th December 2015.

The conference showcased the diverse range of translational research from Postgraduate Research, Post-Doctoral Research and Clinical Research.

School of Medicine, Prize-Giving Ceremony 2015

The annual School of Medicine Prize-Giving Ceremony took place on Friday 20 November, 2015 in Brookfield Health Sciences Complex.

Students in the final year of their medical studies are invited to take part in the 2015 Jack Flanagan Medal Competition in Geriatric Medicine. This year's competition will be held in UCC on Wednesday 21^st October.

This competition is named after Dr Jack Flanagan, who was the first doctor in Ireland to specialise in modern day geriatric medicine. The winners are awarded an academic medal in memory of Dr Flanagan's contribution to the specialty.

Last year’s winners from UCC’S School of Medicine comprised of Ms. Cathie O’Mahoney, Ms. Róisín Ryan, Mr. Ronan Bluett and Mr. Ciaran Mullins who were coached by Dr. Paul Gallagher (Consultant Geriatrician & Senior Lecturer in Medicine) and Dr. Amanda Lavan (Specialist Registrar in Geriatric Medicine and PhD Research Fellow, School of Medicine, UCC).

Monday 6 July 2015: Next week marks the beginning of the medical careers of many newly qualified doctors. Today the School of Medicine hosted the Intern South Network Induction Day. Over 130 new doctors attended, with graduates from UCC, other Irish Medical Schools and overseas in attendance.

Friday, May 29^th has seen 171 students from across the four corners of the globe end their undergraduate education in University College Cork as they are awarded Honours Degrees in Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics.

Students from UCC’s Medical Society (Med Soc) have today launched their annual Teddy Bear Hospital, which aims to limit children’s apprehension surrounding visiting the doctor, a term known as “white-coat anxiety.”
