Irish Research Council Postgraduate Scholarship
UCC School of Law encourages prospective applicants to consider applying for the IRC Postgraduate Scholarship Programme, offering valuable support for innovative and impactful research.
2025 Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme
The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme is a well-established national initiative, funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, and administered by the Irish Research Council.
The Irish Research Council is the national funder of excellent research across all disciplines. It invests in discovery research and in ground-breaking ideas that address major societal challenges, funding a diverse range of excellent individual researchers across all career stages.
The IRC Postgraduate Scholarship Programme is a highly competitive opportunity that supports outstanding researchers in making meaningful contributions to knowledge and society.
Applicant Eligibility
- Postgraduate applicants must have a first-class or upper second-class honours bachelor's degree (or equivalent)
- Postgraduate applicants can be from any country; however, applicants are categorised based on nationality and residency
- Cat 1: National of EU Member state, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, UK, or Ukraine ANDhas been ordinarily resident in one of those countries for a continuous period of 3 of the 5 years preceding 01 September 2025
- Cat 2: All other applicants who do not meet both criteria for Category 1.
- Doctoral applicants can only have held an IRC research master's degree scholarship
- Applicants for a doctoral degree must not currently hold, or have previously held, any IRC scholarship other than one which would have enabled them to obtain a research master’s degree.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT
A total of up to €31,000, this includes a stipend of €22,000 to cover living expenses, funding for eligible direct research expenses of €3,250, and a contribution to fees, including non-European Union fees, paid to the host institution up to a maximum of €5,750.
