UCC CI celebrates CNY

16 Feb 2018
Chinese New Year 2018 - The Year of The Dog.

To mark the Chinese New Year of the Dog, last week UCC Confucius Institute organised a spectacular event of Chinese song, dance, poetry and martial arts. Performers ranged from Chinese students to local school and university students, some whose families had lived in China, others who have never been to The Middle Kingdom.

High profile guests and speakers included His Excellency, Ambassador Yue; Lord Mayor Cllr Tony Fitzgerald; Deputy President & Registrar Professor John O'Halloran; Vice President for Teaching and Learning, Dr Marian McCarthy; Head of the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, Professor Chris Williams; International Office Director, Dr Christopher Brown; Deputy Chief Executive of Cork City Council, Pat Ledwidge and International Strategy Officer for China, Emma Connolly.

“Events such as this are such an important part of UCC calendar as we celebrate our university and our region’s diversity and learn from each others’ culture and traditions”, Emma Connolly, UCC International Strategy Officer for China.
